Clinical Data on the AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR® IOL

Results From Studies on Visual Acuity, Visual Disturbances, and Patient Satisfaction

Binocular Visual Acuity

A Full Range of Clear Vision—Near, Intermediate, and Far

The vast majority of patients who undergo cataract surgery receive monofocal IOLs. While these lenses may successfully correct distance vision, they do not provide functional near vision. This means that patients must continue to wear reading glasses or bifocals to perform routine daily tasks like reading a newspaper, menu, or medicine bottle.

Fortunately, a clinical study clearly demonstrated the excellent visual performance of the AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR® IOL, which can offer patients clear vision at all distances.

Distance Visual Acuity

A clinical study showed that the AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR® IOL provides excellent near visual acuity without compromising distance vison. In a recent study, 99% of patients who received the AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR® IOL +3.0 D bilaterally achieved distance visual acuity of 20/40 or better without correction.1

Additionally, 85% of patients who received the AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR® IOL +3.0 D bilaterally achieved distance visual acuity of 20/25 or better without contacts or glasses.

Near Visual Acuity

74% of patients who received the AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR® IOL bilaterally achieved near visual acuity of 20/25 or better without correction. With this level of near visual acuity, patients can read the normal type in a newspaper.1

Additionally, clinical studies show that the new AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR® IOL +3.0 D increases the distance of best near visual acuity by 20%, or about 2.5 inches, compared to the +4.0 D model.1

Intermediate Visual Acuity

According to the same clinical study, the AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR® IOL +3.0 D model also provides patients with an even fuller range of excellent intermediate vision. The study showed that the near to intermediate range of visual acuity more than doubled, from 5 to 11 inches, with the +3.0 D IOL.1

90% of AcrySof®: IQ ReSTOR®: IOL +3.0D patients achieved functional uncorrected intermediate vision of 20/40 at 60 cm.1 20/40 is the requirement to pass the vision test for a driver's license in most states.

With overall visual acuity of 20/32 for all distances and an improved apodized diffractive optic design, the AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR® IOL +3.0 D gives your patients a better chance than ever for a fully restored range of vision—near, intermediate, and distance.1

Visual Disturbances

The AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR® IOL features a patented technology called apodization. The process of apodization involves the gradual tapering of concentric step heights from the center to the periphery of a lens's diffractive region. Apodization creates a smooth transition of light between the distance, intermediate, and near focal points, reducing the potential for glare, halos, and other visual disturbances.

Visual Disturbances

According to the clinical study, all mean visual disturbance ratings were within the None/Mild category (less than 3 on a scale of 0 to 7) in patients with the AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR® IOL +3.0 D. The study also demonstrated no clinically relevant increase of severe visual disturbances compared to the +4.0 D model.

Quality of Life

In a patient satisfaction survey, the majority of patients implanted with the +3.0 D IOL— nearly 94%—indicated that they would have the lenses implanted again.1
